Readingground Magazine: Unique Perspectives on the Seemingly Mundance was founded in 2002 as a print zine that featured local writers. In 2005, we went digital and created Readingground Blogazine. After 8 print issues and almost 50 web issues, Readingground has been home to more than 20 young writers and poets. Each issue features a short work of creative non-fiction, a poem, and other magazine extras such as our Apartment Art series (creative projects you can do at home), and Show & Tell (a link blog to unique perspectives across the internet universe).

SPRING FEVER FESTIVAL
produced every two years
Proposals for SFF 2009 will be available September 2008, and will be due November 1, 2008. Participants will be chosen by January 15, 2009.
In 2003, we decided to mount our first fully produced theatre project. Because the costs of a full production are so huge, we thought it would be wasteful for us to rent a theatre, then only use it for 75 minutes a night. We began inviting other independent artists in theatre, visual art, music, and film to share the venue, and the Spring Fever Festival was born. Produced every two years, this festival is an opportunity for independent artists of all disciplines to take creative risks, develop new ideas, and reach new audiences. Shows from the Spring Fever Festival has been featured in The Village Voice’s “Voice Choices,” Off-Off-Online’s Pick of the Week, The NY Times, The Gothamist, GO Brooklyn, and Backstage.

CRAWL FOR ART
crawled every other year in tandem with the Spring Fever Festival
In 2004, we decided we were done with benefit parties and other traditional fundraisers, and starting looking for something more fun and fruitful. We’d seen people walk, run, and bike for good causes, but nobody crawls! That fall we got down on our hands and knees and crawled 3 feet for every $1 we raised through the streets of Park Slope, Brooklyn. The Crawl for Art has become a fundraising tradition ever since.

Dramatizations of Congressional Hearings

In response to the 2004 Republican Convention in NYC and the politicalization of 9/11, we decided to stage a reading of transcripts from the 9/11 Commission Hearings. This project evolved into a larger documentary theatre project, using hearings on subjects such as government contracting in Iraq, the exposure of CIA agent Valerie Plame, and the multiple points of view on voting system security.
